Integrating therapies to individualize a treatment plan
What is Myomassology? Myomassology is a form of massage that has drawn various components of other modalities to create a soothing, purifying, and rejuvenating treatment. Among the therapies included are components of: Swedish, Thai, Lomi-Lomi, Shiatsu, Acupressure and Lymphatic Drainage massage as well as Aromatherapy, and Traditional Chinese Fire Cupping.
A myomassology treatment plan is individually developed for each client, and changes as the client's needs and body changes. Some common areas of concern are addressed below, and integrated into the session as needed. Although other areas of the body may need individualized attention, such as an athlete's legs, or pain in the lower back from a muscle spasm, be assured that each session is tailored to your health, wellness and wholistic needs.
Temportal Mandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ):external and intra-oral massage
This treatment will include addressing the muscles of the neck, shoulders and jaw as tension in these areas often contribute to TMJ dysfunction. It will also include massage on the face and muscles of mastication, as well as intra-orally using gloves to access the fascia and muscles. The treatment often includes trigger point or friction therapies, as well as a good deal of fascial release work. Intra-oral massage is a treatment inside the mouth; the muscles and fascia inside the cheek, but outside the teeth, which reduces the chances of gagging or discomfort. This area can be quite tender to treat, but treatment inside the mouth can be up to 80% more effective than treatment of the same muscles outside the mouth.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick tissue running from your achilles tendon to the bottom of the foot and toes. This tissue is called the plantar fascia. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the thick band of tissue on the bottom of the foot is overstretched or overused and begins to form adhesions. This can be painful and make walking more difficult. The most common complaint is dull or sharp pain and stiffness in the bottom of the heel and the foot may ache or burn, particularly when you get out of bed in the morning. Fascia, joint mobilization and muscle-targeted therapy on the lower leg, achilles, foot and plantar fascia is used in a treatment to address this syndrome.
Pseudo Sciatica and Piriformis Syndrome
Sciatica refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It is caused by injury to or pressure on the sciatic nerve. Piriformis syndrome is a disorder that occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed or otherwise irritated by the piriformis muscle causing pain, tingling and numbness in the buttocks and along the path of the sciatic nerve descending down the lower thigh and into the leg. These conditions closely resemble each other.
A series of muscle-targeted manipulations, fascial releases, and leg balancing are integrated into treatment plan for clients that are experiencing this pain. Coupled with a relaxational massage the client can begin their road toward pain relief and proactively keeping the symptoms under control through healthy stretching and releases.
Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a common syndrome in which a person has long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. The goal of treatment is to help relieve pain and other symptoms. It often involves soothing relaxation techniques. A treatment plan is developed for each individual based on their symptoms. Clients with Fibromyalgia have reported great pain relief, help in sleeping, and mobility with regular treatments.
Raindrop Therapy has also been helpful for many sufferers of Fibromyalgia.
Deep Tissue Massage - Gently done with fire cupping
A wonderful addition to the myomassology treatment, Fire cupping is a type of acupressure therapy that applies pressure to acupuncture points on the body. In its simplest form, fire cupping is a type of deep tissue massage that promotes stress relief and relaxation.
Acupressure deals with all the aspects of a person as a whole: body, emotions, mind, and spirit as one, not as separate parts. Acupressure uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force to aid healing.
