What is Head Massage? Head massage is a safe, simple yet effective therapy. The art of Indian Head Massage originated from Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. This Sanskrit word can be translated as the "science of life" or "knowledge of life". The Ayurvedic approach to health is the balance of body, mind and spirit and the promotion of long life. It has been practised for over a thousand years. It was originally developed by women as part of their grooming routine. They used different oils according to the season to keep their hair strong, lustrous and in beautiful condition.
Ayurvedic Head Massage, is a form of relaxation massage that focuses on the face, head, neck, shoulders, upper back and upper arms which are important energy centers within the body. This form of massage is very relaxing and has a balancing effect on the recipient as it helps them to release stress and tension creating a sense of peace and well-being.
How does it work? The head, neck and shoulders are important energy centers within your body. If you are feeling stressed or angry, tension tends to accumulate. The tension can later show up as a stiff neck and shoulders, as eye strain and sometimes even as hair loss.
Ayurvedic Head Massage involves working with a firm and gentle rhythm to help unknot blockages and relieve this uncomfortable build-up of tension. It tackles the physical, mental and emotional effects of stress in a unique and particularly effective way. The head and hair are extremely sensitive as the face and scalp are crowded with nerve endings. This makes them very receptive to touch. Massaging the head and hair is soothing and deeply relaxing.
What happens during the treatment? You will be asked to remove all jewellery, glasses and hearing aids, as well as your upper clothing. (you will have a wrap provided to wear on your torso, which allows your shoulders and neck to be open). If you want you can remove your shoes as well. Then you will be asked to sit down in an upright chair without crossing your legs. Anne will stand behind you and work with your neck, head, shoulders and ears. Essential oils are used during the treatment, and through your hair. (you can request that no oils be used in your hair if you prefer). You can tell Anne what area needs more attention or to avoid specific sensitive areas.
